Madrid, March 2, 2005- Expectation and attention is gathering for the visit to the United States of the family of José Couso starting March 16, Break the Impunity!. Venues have been booked and organizations in several cities have begun the work of building for appearances by the family of the journalist, a camerman for Spain’s Telecinco TV station who was murdered in Baghdad by US troops on April 8, 2003.

Firstly, the Couso family will speak at both mass antiwar rallies on the East Coast planned for March 19, 2005: in Fayetteville, North Carolina, which is home to Fort Bragg but also a growing movement of military families and veterans opposed to the war in Iraq, as represented by the burgeoning ranks of peace organizations representing these constituencies; and, in New York City, where a major march and rally will be held in Central Park..

In New York City, Not In Our Name’s Resistance Cinema series and the Peace Task Force of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church are organizing the New York premiere of Hotel Palestine: Killing the Witness, the powerful documentary produced by Spain’s Telecinco that scrutinizes the attack against the Hotel Palestine and shows that the US military deliberately targets journalists it does not control, who are “unembedded.”

In Chicago, speaking and documentary events are confirmed for the week beginning March 28 at Depaul and Loyola Universities, as well as appearances on the radio. More details on dates and times will be forthcoming.

In San Francisco Bay Area, the brother of José Couso will appear at New College, and at a major event at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland on April 7 organized by Global Exchange.

Finally, the Couso tour will conclude on April 8 in Washington DC with an homage to José on the second anniversary of his murder.
